Reading Group

The Reading Group meets every second Thursday in the month at 11.00am in a room in the Community Care Centre above Stokesley Library. The Group has grown to about 15, leading to varied and interesting views on the books selected.

Members of the group aim to read a book each month ready to discuss at the meeting. Books range from fiction, old and new, to biography, tales of adventure, of life here or in other countries – in fact any book that is recommended by a member or has interesting reviews, that we consider will be a good read and produce a varied discussion. Over a cup of coffee, we talk about the book – and about the ideas it has generated – with no set parameters for where discussion will lead!

Some previous ‘books of the month’ have been :-

Touching the Void by Joe Simpson

Spies by Michael Frayn

Diary of a Nobody by George &Weedon Grossmith

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Small Island by Andrea Levy

If you enjoy reading, why not join us? Upcoming plans are:

November - The Suspicions of Mr Whicher - Kate Summerscales

December - No meeting

January - The Pilot's Wife - Anita Shreve
