Latin for Fun
'
Owing to popular demand there are now two Latin for Fun groups!
The Beginners meet every 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month at the leader's house in Swainby. We use Book 1 of the Cambridge Latin Course and make gentle progress through it, looking not only at the Latin, but also at the social history that forms the background to the stories. We aim also to enrich our English vocabulary by studying the roots of English words derived from Latin.
The established group, which meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, is romping through Book 2 of the course, which is set at first in Roman Britain, then in Alexandria in Egypt, giving opportunities to study the rich culture of both places.
At present both groups are full.
